Riding Background:
I started riding my “Big Wheel” (an early plastic recumbent… sort of) the day of my third birthday in Palo Alto, CA. I quickly transitioned to my parents ten speeds and proceeded to crash into many a parked car. At seven I moved to rural Idaho, and transitioned to a small mountain bike, though most of my riding involved a two stroke of one displacement or another. After a significant bikeless period, a.k.a. my twenties, my wife Ellen convinced me to buy a used Cannondale hard tail with a lefty fork about three years ago for some exercise beyond martial arts. I have been riding recumbents since January 2005.
How did you get into Recumbents?
As an avid road cyclist, Ellen was beginning to have problems in the normal areas: neck, shoulders, wrists, back, & of course, the posterior. She started looking at recumbents, borrowing fellow Bacchetta teammate Ben Tomlin’s Vision. In January 2005 she found a used Strada on Ebay, but as luck would have it it fit me and not her. I bought it for a song and have been spinning ever since, and though I ride primarily on weekends, the Brevet series have been my training rides.
How did you get asked to be a TEAM BACCHETTA team mate?
It happened the day t took fourth in the 2006 Race Across Florida, though I think my appetite for ULTRA rides helped.
What Bacchetta do you ride?
A 2004 Strada, though I plan on adding an Aero soon!
